IKAT PATTERN STENCILS

ikat5ph3-390x310 Ikat pattern page

Ikat pattern stencils are perfect for any bohemian-style home décor. Give an ethnic feel to any room with ikat. Ikat looks great in bright colors. It also looks great in subtle colors. Even with subtle, neutral colors, it will still make a real impact on any space.

The ikat (pronounced ee’kaht) pattern originated in Southeast Asia as a technique for fabric-making. The threads for the cloth are dyed prior to weaving and create a blending of colors around the edges of the pattern. This is not the fake ikat you now see on department store decorative pillow covers.  Our ikat pattern stencils are unique in that they mimic the bleeding edge look. Olive is an avid collector of ikat fabrics. All of the ikat designs are based on real ikat fabric. Now you can make your walls look like gorgeous fabric.

Our repeating pattern stencils come with registration marks. These are tiny holes in the corners of each stencil. You can mark them with a pencil to get a perfectly aligned repeat. With patience and care, you can stencil a whole room by yourself. You may need to rinse the stencil to avoid excess paint buildup, but you can do it with just one. If you have help and you are stenciling more than one wall, two or more stencils will be faster. Some of the ikat designs are delicate, so you will need to use care. We suggest using low-tack spray adhesive for all of our stencils. But we recommend it especially for the ikats. This will ensure that your roller does not get snagged on the design.

You can achieve that wallpaper look without the hassle or expense of wallpaper. Stencils are economical and easier to do yourself compared to wallpaper. You don’t have to be an artist to stencil – give it a try!

An ambitious blogger used our Ikat no. 1 to stencil her dining room. She got a beautiful result. If you would like to be inspired by ikat, check out her blog:
